Bone and Joint Health for Men Receiving Hormone Therapy for Prostate Rob Filmer & Adore Your Pelvic Floor

22nd November 2021

Rob guides us through the recommended considerations to bone and joint health, with lifestyle exercise choices, whilst focussing on the needs often required by men receiving treatment for prostate.

Rob graduated with a degree in Business in the late 1980s and pursued a career in computer & business consultancy for over 16 years, working in both the private and public sectors.

In 2002, Rob started Pilates on the recommendation of his osteopath, who was treating him for a number of back-related issues and a repetitive strain injury (RSI).  Pilates was a revelation to Rob, not only due to its ability to help him to support his physical body with accessible exercises (and becoming less reliant on regular osteopathic treatment), but also the mind-body focus and work on breath which helped him address stress.

Rob was so inspired that he decided to embark on a comprehensive training to become a Pilates Matwork teacher, qualifying in 2004.

He completed his Studio Teacher Training with Polestar ®Pilates in 2006.

Subsequently, he obtained a RYT200 Yoga Teacher Training qualification from the Art of Contemporary Yoga and has attended various specialist training courses including Osteoporosis, Hypermobility & Scoliosis.

He has worked closely with both osteopaths & physiotherapists, integrating Pilates sessions into client treatment programmes, to help speed their recovery and reduce reoccurrence of issues.

Rob obtained a specialist Level 4 qualification in Exercise for Low Back Pain Management in 2011, to help complement his existing Pilates skills for clients experiencing a wide variety of spine-related issues.

In 2019, he obtained a qualification in Post-Rehabilitation Exercise for Breast Cancer patients and recently obtained a Level 3 Diploma in GP Exercise Referral and a Level 4 qualification in Exercise for Cancer Rehabilitation.

Rob continues to be inspired by both fellow therapists, teachers and above all by his amazing clients. His aim is to utilise his knowledge of Pilates, Yoga, myofascial anatomy movement practice and other approaches to help each client on their unique journey. He continues to study, regularly attending workshops and courses to expand his knowledge. https://www.gatewaytobalance.com/
